Illustration of Azuma Bridge in Asakusa, Tokyo, 1888

Comments - Interesting depiction of the impressive steel Azuma Bridge over the Sumida River in Tokyo, which opened in 1887. The river is busy with traffic, including a steamship with smoke pouring from the stack and a small boat being rowed by a group of boys. Red clouds drift across the center, with the pagoda and rooftops of the temple at Asakusa rising above the treetops beyond. A nice historic subject.
