Playing Hanetsuki, 1854

Comments - Charming scene of two beauties playing hanetsuki, a game similar to badminton that is played at New Year's. The woman at left holds her battledore above her head as she looks up, tying to spy the shuttlecock, which can be seen in the sky at top center. Her companion smiles happily as she watches. A blossoming plum tree frames a view of a garden beyond, with an arched bridge at upper left crossing over the large pond. An attractive scene, nicely detailed.

Artist - Fusatane (active 1854 - 1888)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2"

Condition - Good detail. A few repairs, a couple creases at edges.
