Beauty Offering a Letter to a Samurai, 1856

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a beauty eagerly offering a letter to a visiting samurai at left, leaning forward with an eager smile as she holds out the message. He stares back at her with an angry frown as he holds up a lantern, a sword in his other hand. At right, a man sitting on the steps to an upper room scratches his head in a puzzled man as he watches the couple. Curtains decorated with fans depicting blossoms, grasses, and leaves run across the back of the room. Nice expressive figures in an attractive setting.

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 28 3/8"
