Nakamura Shikan as a Street Knight Reading a Letter, 1865

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan as an otokodate or street knight reading a letter, looking up with a tightlipped frown as he holds the message between his hands. He wears a boldly patterned kimono over a red under robe, a sword at his side and a shakuhachi flute tucked at his back. Nicely detailed with soft shading on the night sky.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 97/8" + margin as shown

Condition - Nice detail. Small repair, light horizontal folds near top and bottom.
