Prince Genji and Beauties in an Iris Garden, 1848

Comments - Lovely scene of Prince Genji and beauties in a garden on a wooden walkway over a pond. The nobleman smiles as he holds out a poem slip, a brush in his other hand. At left, a beauty holds a tray with an ink stone while her companion offers Genji a cup of sake. At right, a courtesan looks down at a girl carrying a folding fan. Behind them, carp bob to the surface of the water, blossoming irises lining the walkway. Flowering wisteria vines frame the scene above. A lovely design, nicely detailed with soft shading on the water and sky and embossed patterns on the white kimono linings.

Image Size - 14" x 30" + margins as shown
