Series; The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido by Two Brushes

Kambara: Ferry at the Fuji River; Pulling in Customers for an Inn, 1854 - Amusing scene of a waitress pulling a customer off the road into the inn where she works. The traveler doesn't seem to mind, grinning as she links her arm through his. She carries his parcels in her other hand, a striped apron tied over her kimono and a towel draped over her shoulder. The inset above by Hiroshige provides a lovely view of the ferry crossing over the Fuji River at Kambara. A few tiny boats filled with passengers can be seen at left, and the snow-covered peak of Mt. Fuji rises in the distance beyond rolling mountains. Beautiful shading in the mountains and sky. A handsome collaborative design from this interesting Tokaido series featuring figures by Toyokuni III and landscapes by Hiroshige.
