Series; Eight Outstanding People Matched with the Plum Calendar, 1859

Sawamura Tossho II as Chidorigake no Marinosuke, 1859 - Terrific kabuki portrait of Sawamura Tossho II as the otokodate or street knight Chidorigake no Marinosuke, wearing a beautiful kimono patterned with decorative paddles and shuttlecocks for a game similar to badminton and colorful balls. He looks ahead with a stern expression, a blue and white towel wrapped snuggly about his neck. The title cartouche takes the form of books with text. Detailed with fine line work on the kimono and hair, faint embossing on the towel, and burnishing on the black color. A handsome design.
