Usugumo, Chapter 19

Series; Ukiyo-e Comparisons of the Cloudy Chapters of Genji, 1845 - 1846

Usugumo, Chapter 19 - Fantastic scene of the young samurai Soma Yoshikado reading a spell, conjuring up an enormous earth spider behind him in a delicate web that stretches across the background. The son of the slain warrior Taira no Masakado, Yoshikado and his sister Princess Takiyasha vowed to avenge his death, enlisting the aid of magic to accomplish their goal.. Yoshikado scowls angrily as he looks down at Uto Yasukata, who throws his hand out in alarm as he leans on his sword, a worried expression on his face. A terrific supernatural design and one of the best subjects from this seldom seen Kuniyoshi series.
