Scene from Date Moyo Somete Kisaragi, 1858

Comments - Handsome portrait of Iwai Kumesaburo III as the younger sister Oren in the kabuki play "Date Moyo Somete Kisaragi" at the Nakamura Theater. She smiles happily as she looks over her shoulder, patting her hair into place with one hand, standing in front of a shoji panel. She wears a geometric patterned kimono over a red under robe tied with a black obi with a red tie-dyed band, her hair adorned with a red lacquer comb, a hairpin, and ribbons. At lower left, a black lacquer towel stand holds a blue and white cloth, and the window above features bamboo bars. An attractive design, nicely detailed.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 10" + top margin as shown

Condition - Good color and detail. Backed with paper.
