Scene from Tomigaoka koi no Yamabiraki, 1857

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the play "Tomigaoka koi no Yamabiraki" at the Nakamura Theater. In the center, Tamaya Shinbei slides open the doorway as Demura Shinbei stands outside in the garden with an umbrella in hand, scowling angrily. At right, the beauty Mikuniya Kojuro grins happily as she recognizes the visitor, leaning forward with her hand thrown out before her. Boldly checked curtains hang at the back of the room behind her, a bundle wrapped in paper resting on the floor nearby. From left, the actors are Seki Sanjuro III, Kataoka Nizaemon VIII, and Iwai Kumesaburo III. Nice detail in the setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 28 1/4"

Condition - Good detail. Thinning areas, a few holes, repaired. A few creases at edges.
