Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the play "Hana ni choiro no dekiaki" at the Nakamura Theater, a drama about rival sumo wrestlers. At left, the sumo Hanaregoma Chokichi sits atop two policemen, who struggle to free themselves as he grimaces angrily at his rival Nuregami Chogoro at right, who has just sent a guard sprawling onto the ground before him. In the center, the beauty Fujiya Atsuma watches the confrontation with a sly grin, flinging one sleeve up above her hand, while the worried Rokune Shodayu kneels at her side holding a small scene of a temple in a box atop a post over his shoulder. Autumn grasses and blossoms atop a grassy slope frame the night sky beyond. From left, the principle actors are Ichimura Uzameon XII, Bando Shuka I, Ichikawa Kuzo II, and Nakamura Utaemon IV. Nice expressive figures in an attractive setting.
