Samurai Battling Guards, 1869

Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of a young samurai battling guards trying to arrest him. Perched on the shoulders of one of his attackers, his raises his sword above his head with a worried frown, his sleeves tied back with cord. At left, guards wearing matching kimono over black undergarments thrust iron truncheons at him. Rooftops are silhouetted behind them against the night sky, with a torii gate at left. A handsome design with expressive figures and fine bokashi shading in the background.
