Chichibu Shigetada Holding a Helmet, 1861

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of the samurai Chichibu Shigetada at left kneeling on the floor with a helmet covered in blue cloth in his outstretched hand, his other hand holding a sword upright. In the center, a rogue stares at him with a sullen frown, while Masatada's wife eyes him suspiciously at right. A large screen decorated with a fierce hawk rests on the floor between the two figures at left, and sliding panels depicting undulating waves frame the room beyond. From left, the actors are Arashi Hinasuke, Ichikawa Ichizo, and Onoe Kikujiro. A handsome design with a nicely detailed setting.
