Series; Five Brave Men of Great Edo, 1846

Five Brave Men of Grand Edo - Handsome kabuki portrait from a rarely seen Toyokuni III series depicting famous otokodate or street knights. Each figure wears a boldly patterned black kimono, and is armed with a sword and a shakuhachi flute, which could be used as a weapon if needed. The full-length characters are set against a yellow background softly shaded with rust at the top. Nicely detailed with burnishing on the kimono. A great series.

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Small loss at corner, thin spot, repaired. A few creases and spots. Please see photos for details.
