Comments - Handsome scene from the classic drama about the 47 ronin, "Kanadehon Chushingura" at the Ichimura Theater. At left, Kakogawa Honzo, a retainer of Lord Hangan, slides open a door, scowling angrily at Lord Wakasanosuke, who regards with with a serious expression, his brows slightly furrowed. He sits at the edge of the room, a candle burning next to him. At top center, shelves hold a lacquer box, a stack of books, and several scrolls, the sliding panels below decorated with colorful autumn maple leaves. From left, the actors are Seki Sanjuro III and Kawarazaki Gonjuro I. An attractive design with a nicely detailed setting.
