Scene from Yosete Mimasu Uchiwa no Eawase, 1865

Comments - Interesting scene from the play "Yosete Mimasu Uchiwa no Eawase" at the Nakamura Theater of the sennin or immortal of Kume floating in a cloud above a length cloth. He looks at the beauty Omura at left with a worried frown. She responds with a happy smile, pointing at him as she holds one end of the fabric that she has just been rinsing in the stream flowing at her feet. At right, a man looks up at the apparition with a frown, the other end of the cloth in his hand. The fellow behind him purses his lips angrily. From left, the actors are Iwai Shijaku II, Ichikawa Kodanji IV, Ichikawa Sadanji I, and Yamazaki Tomoemon. An unusual design, nicely detailed with soft shading on the night sky.
