Comments - Interesting kabuki triptych featuring two scenes from a play. At left, a courtesan in red kimono decorated with yellow pine branches and blossoming irises looks up with a worried expression at a man standing beneath a blossoming cherry tree. The beauty beside her holds a softly glowing lantern. At right, a warrior angrily waves his fan as he glares down at a young samurai, gripping a polearm in his other hand. The youth grimaces back at him, his long hair falling loosely over his shoulders, a bow in his hand. The beauty beside him reacts with concern, leaning forward with a slight frown as she throws her hand out at her side. A colorful detail with large expressive figures, detailed with accents of metallic pigment that have oxidized to a dark tone.
