Comments - Fantastic depiction of Kato Kiyomasa hunting tigers in Chosen (Korea). Kiyomasa was one of the three senior commanders during the Seven-Year War with Korea, and had the opportunity to hunt the animals while there. Here, Kiyomasa deftly lunges to his side in the snow, gripping a pole arm and biting his lower lip in determination as he keeps an eye on the angry beast. The tiger growls and bares its fangs, its tail twitching above its back. A grove of bamboo frames the wintry gray sky. A dynamic, dramatic image, beautifully detailed with burnishing on the armor and soft shading on the wintry gray sky.

Artist - Chinsai Rosetsu (active circa 1890s - 1900s)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 28 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - Excellent color and detail. A few small losses at corners, repaired. Light creasing throughout, diagonal fold near top of each panel.
