Fujiwara Hidesato Killing the Giant Centipede, 1867

Comments - Incredible scene of the warrior Fujiwara no Hidesato killing the giant centipede at the edge of Seta in Omi Province. Standing on the shore, the fearless samurai puts an arrow to the string as he prepares to shoot the hideous creature, which floats in the sky with glowing yellow eyes. Other warriors eye the monster with angry frowns while a kneel beauty at left prays, her hands clasped before her. A fantastic supernatural subject from this famous tale, with fine detail in the clothing and armor and a dark, atmospheric setting.
