Scene from Sono Na Nomi Karigane-zome, 1863

Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Sono Na Nomi Karigane-zome" of Kaminari no Onaru tossing a man off a boat at right. His legs are visible as he tumbles into the water, the beauty grinning as she watches. At left, Yamakawaya Gonroku smiles back at her, a fishing pole at his side. A circular inset above shows a young boy with a worried expression wearing a checked kimono. From left, the actors are Bando Mitsugoro VI, Bando Yoshiya, and Bando Shuka. An intriguing subject with a handsome setting.
