Evening Cool at Ryogoku, 1860

Comments - Charming scene of a pleasure boat beneath the wooden pilings of Ryogoku Bridge. In the center, a man stands in the front of the boat as a beauty takes hold of his sword. Two other women wait on the dock at left, preparing to board, each wearing a kimono with an embossed white lining featuring autumn grasses. At right, a man in a blue and white summer kimono patterned with spools of thread grins happily as he fans himself, a blind folded up over the roof of the cabin. A terrific image of a favorite summer pastime, nicely detailed and shaded.
