Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Student, Carpenter, and Merchant

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene featuring from left, Nakamura Shikan as a student, Onoe Kikugoro as a carpenter, and Bando Hikosaburo as a merchant. The fellow at left leans forward with an angry frown, a dotted sash tied around his forehead. The man in the center grins back at him, his hair cropped short in the latest Meiji fashion. He wears a red and green muffler trimmed with tassels over a purple plaid coat and a plaid kimono tucked into striped pants. The man at right watches his companions suspiciously as he holds his hands out before him. Nice large figures set against a background shaded from red to white to green.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 1/8" x 28"

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Vertical fold in each panel, slight rubbing. Please see photos for details.
