A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction
Outing at a Shrine, 1861 - Attractive kabuki triptych depicting an outing at a shrine. At right, a beauty kneels at the foot of the stone steps, smiling as she looks up at her companion. A meal is set out on a black lacquer tray nearby, and the man holds a sake bottle by a rope tied around its neck. He frowns unhappily at the beauty, as does the older fellow at right, whose arms are firmly folded across his chest. At left, a samurai kneels next to a young girl, seemingly showing her the scabbard of his sword, while a matron crouches behind the pillar of a torii gate. Cherry blossoms frame the scene overhead. An interesting subject with nice interaction between the characters.
