A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction
Matano Goro Kagehisa Gesturing at Sanada Yoichi Yoshitada, 1847 - 1852 - Dramatic triptych of the strong man Matano Goro Kagehisa standing atop a rock, gesturing angrily with his fan to the samurai Sanada Yoichi Yoshitada, who rides on horseback below. Bitter enemies, Kagehisa served the Taira clan while Yoshitada was a retainer for the Minamoto family during the 12th century Genpei War. Yoshitada is dressed for hunting, a bow in hand and a quiver of arrows at his back, wearing a woven hat. He looks back over his shoulder calmly as Kagehisa rages at him, his muscles bulging. At far right, Minamoto no Yoshitsune sits on a red cushion under the pine trees, surrounded by his troops. An intriguing scene with a bold composition and a terrific mountainous setting.
