Comments - Intriguing scene of Ichimura Uzaemon XII as the young man Inabanosuke and Onoe Kikugoro III as the courtesan Usugumo in the play "Ume no hatsuharu gojusan tsugi" (Plum Spring: The Fifty-three Stations) at the Ichimura Theater. A wisp of gray smoke rises from the back of the seated Inabanosuke, taking shape as a ghostly woman leaning forward with her hair hanging down. He watches in alarm as the spirit appears behind Usugumo, who smiles back at him sweetly, seemingly unaware of what is happening. She wears a green kimono with blue trim over a red under robe, tied with a blue obi. A fascinating supernatural scene with expressive figures.
