Series; Twelve Views of Modern Beauties

The Contented Type, circa 1822 - 1823 - Charming portrait of a beauty adjusting her hair as she looks into a pocket mirror, a small white cloth caught between her teeth. A white cloth is pinned protectively around her hair, which is pulled back into a smooth bun adorned with a comb, clusters of blue flowers, and ribbons. An inset above in the form of an unrolled scroll depicts a shrine nestled among the pines and blossoming cherry trees. A classic Edo era beauty portrait.
