First Blacksmith Ironwork, 1870 - Interesting educational print from a series depicting a variety of occupations along with food, clothing, and shelter. Here, young apprentice blacksmiths happily pound a length or iron flat, the boys taking turns using long-handled mallets. A beauty watches at right, smiling as the youths work, small wrapped packages in her hands. A great look at daily life in Japan.
