Comments - Handsome kabuki double portrait featuring Nakamura Fukusuke as the samurai Nagoya and Sawamura Tossho as his servant Kinohei. Nagoya looks up from the letter he is reading with an angry frown, his kimono patterned with a bridge. Kinohei scowls as he pats his neck with one hand, the crest on his shoulders and the striped collars of his robe identifying him as a yakko or footman. Nice large expressive figures set against a background shaded from plum to pink to green. Includes embossing on the white cloth around Kinohei's head, the cord tied around Nagoya's topknot, and the letter.
