Sixth Month: Sanno Festival, 1889 - Handsome depiction of the Sanno Festival parade making its way along a street lined with shops. The festival celebrated the Mountain Deity (Sanno) of Hie Shrine, the protector of Edo Castle. The large float is topped with a monkey figure clothed in elegant robes, followed by a group of performers dressed in exotic Korean costumes. A lively and colorful scene, nicely detailed.
