Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of a young samurai Tadamitsu throwing his hand up in disgust as he grimaces at an older warrior. The samurai wears a fine suit of armor with broken arrows protruding from it, his long hair flowing wildly around his head. The warrior at right regards him with a sober expression as he leans against his sword. At left, Tadamitsu's wife and an elderly warrior with white hair watch the confrontation. The banners and standards of a line of approaching troops can be seen on the horizon against the dark night sky at upper left. From left, the actors are Nakamura Shikan as Endo Shogen Jito, Kawarazaki Kunitaro as the wife of Tadamitsu, Sukedayu Kosuke as Ikkura Sakon, and Ichikawa Danjuro as Kazusa Goro Tadamitsu. A great design with expressive faces and fine detail, including burnishing in the black vest at left, faint embossing on the white hair, and fine bokashi shading on the sky.
