The Night Scenes Series - Lovely design from a series of 21 night scenes first published by Hasegawa/Nishinomiya in the 1910s. Subjects are evening and night views, primarily printed in shades of blue, many with glowing moons or twinkling lights and figures in silhouette. The series was quite popular with editions printed up through the 1930s and even later. Beautifully colored and printed, these classic shin-hanga designs are a favorite with collectors.
Ueno Park - Wonderful view of a mother and child walking through Ueno Park at night, glimpsed through the trunks of tall pine trees as they approach a set of stairs. The child carries a tiny glowing lantern on a pole, and the warm orange lights from houses on the far shore glimmer on the water below. A slender crescent moon can be seen high in the sky beyond the tree branches. A beautiful scene.
