The Night Scenes Series

The Night Scenes Series - Lovely design from a series of 21 night scenes first published by Hasegawa/Nishinomiya in the 1910s. Subjects are evening and night views, primarily printed in shades of blue, many with glowing moons or twinkling lights and figures in silhouette. The series was quite popular with editions printed up through the 1930s and even later. Beautifully colored and printed, these classic shin-hanga designs are a favorite with collectors.

Lake Biwa (Blue) - Beautiful night scene of a boat on Lake Biwa, the figures seen in dark silhouette beneath a tall pine tree. A lantern on the boat glows softly, the warm light reflected on the shimmering water below. The sky is dotted with tiny white stars beyond the pine trees. A lovely, atmospheric design.
