The Night Scenes Series

The Night Scenes Series - Lovely design from a series of 21 night scenes first published by Hasegawa/Nishinomiya in the 1910s. Subjects are evening and night views, primarily printed in shades of blue, many with glowing moons or twinkling lights and figures in silhouette. The series was quite popular with editions printed up through the 1930s and even later. Beautifully colored and printed, these classic shin-hanga designs are a favorite with collectors.

A High Bridge by Night - Lovely view of a bridge in silhouette against the deep blue evening sky. A boatman poles his craft between the tall wooden pilings, shadows reflected on the water below. In the distance, the warm light from lighted windows shimmers on the water, and a bridge can just be seen. A lovely design with beautiful coloring and shading. Please note, the artist's name "Yoshimune" is stamped on the reverse, but multiple sources identify the artist as Eijiro Kobayashi.
