The Night Scenes Series

The Night Scenes Series - Lovely design from a series of 21 night scenes first published by Hasegawa/Nishinomiya in the 1910s. Subjects are evening and night views, primarily printed in shades of blue, many with glowing moons or twinkling lights and figures in silhouette. The series was quite popular with editions printed up through the 1930s and even later. Beautifully colored and printed, these classic shin-hanga designs are a favorite with collectors.

Rainy Day at Kudan - Handsome view of Kudan on a rainy night, a warm glow coming from the lighthouse at upper left, which was built in 1871. A couple of pedestrians in silhouette carrying umbrellas pass a rickshaw, the wet pavement shimmering. Beautifully shaded.

Image Size - 9 7/8" x 7 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with somewhat stiff paper and remargined. Artist's name stamped on reverse. Please see photos for details.
