Original Chikashige (active circa 1869 - 1882) Japanese Woodblock Print
Conversation with a Nobleman, 1879

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of two noblemen in black court robes and caps surrounded by samurai. At bottom center, a warrior looks up with a defiant expression as one of the nobleman frowns back at him. At lower right, a man offers what might be a roll of papers, while a lower left, another fellow holds out a black lacquer box topped with a smaller red lacquer box. Large crests against a purple background create a striking setting. Beautifully detailed with subtle burnished patterns on the black robes.

Artist - Chikashige (active circa 1869 - 1882)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 27 3/4" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. Wormholes, repaired. A few wrinkles and stains. Please see photos for details.
