Men beside a Garden Gate

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of two men on either side of a garden gate. At right, the commoner Kosuke looks down with an angry grimace, gripping his sword in one hand, his robe tucked up at the back for easier movement. A young man eavesdrops at left, tilting his head and smiling strangely. He wears a blue dotted coat over a plaid kimono. Bamboo trellises support shrubs with pink and white blossoms in the background. The actor at right is Nakamura Utaemon. A nicely detailed subject.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 19 1/4"
