Kataoka Gado II as Yoshihira and Onoe Kikugoro IV as His Wife, 1855 - Handsome kabuki double portrait the classic 47 ronin drama, "Kanadehon Chushingura" featuring Yoshihira, the proprietor of the Amakawaya Shop, and his wife, Oen. Yoshihira promised to assemble and hide weapons for use in the vendetta against Moronao, and he decides to send his wife to her father-in-law's home to keep her from knowing about his involvement in the plot. She reacts with dismay, looking over her shoulder with her mouth slightly agape, while her husband regards her with a frown, his brows slightly furrowed, a few sheets of paper in his hand. Nice large expressive figures, detailed with fine line work in the hair and burnishing on the black kimono collars and obi.
