Bando Hikosaburo IV as Ichimonjiya Mohei and Iwai Kumesaburo III as Okaru, 1855 - Handsome double portrait from the "Kanadehon Chushingura," the classic kabuki play based on the 47 ronin. Bando Hikosaburo IV appears as Ichimonjiya Mohei and Iwai Kumesaburo III plays Kampei's wife, Okaru. Mohei scowls unhappily as he smokes a pipe, a fan in his hand and a towel draped over his shoulder. The beauty Okaru bites nervously on a towel, tilting her head shyly away from her companion. She wears a green kimono tied with a black obi that reverses to a brown print over a red under robe. Nice fine line work in the hair, with burnishing on the black kimono collar and obi, and soft shading in the background.
