Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Soga Moyo Tateshi no Goshozome" at the Ichimura Theater. At left, the beggar Yadokari plays the shamisen, tilting her her head with a coy smile, the edge of a blue cloth caught between her teeth. At right, the yakko or footman Setsuhei watches her suspiciously out of the corners of his eyes, an open book in one hand. He wears a striped kimono with insets of bamboo and reeds on the shoulders over a red under robe with a black collar. From left, the actors are Onoe Eizaburo 4.5 (later Kawarazaki Kunitaro II) and Ichimura Kakitsu IV. Nice expressive figures, with soft shading on the background.
