Comments - Fantastic view of actors gathered on the third floor of a theater for rehearsal. Several of the actors hold scripts as they practice their dialogue, while musicians at right play shamisen and drums. A pair of actors rehearses at left, the beauty holding a script in her hand. In the second panel from the right, a stagehand provides sound effects by clapping blocks of wood on a board. At bottom center, two men chat while a third writes in a book, candles burning on a wooden stand before them.
From right, the actors are Ichikawa Danzo VI, Ichikawa Ichizo III, Onoe Waichi II, Ichikawa Dannosuke V, Sawamura Tanosuke III, Asao Yoroku II; Seki Sanjuro III, Ichikawa Kodanji IV, Iwai Kumesaburo III, Segawa Joko III, and Kawatake Shinshichi II; Kawarazaki Gonjuro I, Ichimura Uzaemon XIII, Ichikawa Kuzo III, and Sakurada Jisuke III; Arashi Hinasuke VII, Sawamura Tossho II, Onoe Baiko 4.5, Ichikawa Shinsha I, Kataoka Jyuzo I, Nakamura Tsuruzo I, and Kataoka Nizaemon VIII. A terrific look behind the scenes of a kabuki theater.
