The 47 Ronin, Act 9: Yuranosuke's Country Retreat in Yamashina

Series; The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers (Kanadehon Chushingura), 1863

The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers - Handsome print from Yoshitora's 1863 kabuki series "The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers" (Kanadehon Chushingura), which tells the story of the famous 47 ronin who avenged their master's death. These scenes feature expressive figures in nicely detailed settings, in an unusual vertical format. Some designs depict different subjects than those commonly associated with a particular act, such as such as Okaru's brother attacking her in Act 7 at the Ichiriki Teahouse rather than her spying on Yuranosuke as he reads a secret message about the vendetta. An interesting variation on these popular tale.

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 9 1/8"
