Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of a rogue drawing his sword as he faces an archer thrusting a bow at him. The rogue wears a furry black robe trimmed with fringe over armor, his bushy hair sticking up atop his head with longer locks pulled into a low ponytail over his shoulders. The arche wears tiger skin chaps and a sleeve protector patterned with a dragon. At left, a beauty watches the men with a coy smile, her hand gripping a sword concealed in a straw mat. A terrace above a stone wall runs across the background with a country shrine at upper left and a huge hollow pine tree against the night sky. From left, the actors are Sawamura Tanosuke, Sawamura Tossho, and Bando Hikosaburo. An interesting design, nicely detailed. Includes burnishing on the black robe.
