Yadorigi, Chapter 49

Series; Ukiyo-e Comparisons of the Cloudy Chapters of Genji, 1845 - 1846

Yadorigi, Chapter 49 - Interesting kabuki portrait of Onoe Kikugoro III as the court calligrapher and scholar Kan Shojo (Sugawara no Michizane) in the play "Sugawara," with Iwai Kumesaburo as Princess Kariya. The nobleman turns away with a defiant expression, his chin thrust forward as he holds a folding fan behind his head. The beauty kneels beside him, gently tugging on his sleeve as she peers up from beneath a robe draped over her head. Nice expressive figures.
