Minamoto no Yoshinaka, 1843 - 1844

Series; Stories of a Hundred Heroes of High Renown, 1843 - 1844

Minamoto no Yoshinaka, 1843 - 1844 - Handsome portrait of the noted general Minamoto no Yoshinaka, who was defeated and killed by his Minamoto cousins and rivals at the Battle of Awazu. He sits on a stool covered with a tiger skin, wearing a fine robe over his armor, which features the paulownia crest of the Minamoto Clan on his chest plate. He holds a tasseled command baton as he looks to the side with a serious frown. His horned battled helmet, topped with a dragon figure, rests on a red lacquer stand next to him. A great expressive image with attractive color and fine detail in the armor and tiger skin.
