Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichikawa Danjuro as Kato Kiyomasa

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro as the famous daimyo Kato Kiyomasa, gripping a polearm above his head with both hands. His helmet is topped with horns and his circular crest, which is repeated on his red vest and chest plate. A wall and mountains run across the background beneath a red sky. A lively and colorful design, detailed with metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the chest plate crest.
