Higo, Flowers of Aso, Tametomo and Princess Shiranui, No. 12 - Intriguing scene of the young Minamoto no Tametomo unleashing his famous temper on a pair of beauties. He gestures angrily with his fan as one of the women attempts to defend herself with a blossoming cherry branch, shielding her face with her hand. Another woman has tumbled onto her back in her haste to get away, while a third lies on the floor behind him. The beauties were tossing cherry blossoms at him during his betrothal to Princess Shiranui. A woman warrior holding a naginata watches solemnly from the background. Tametomo was sent to the island of Kyushu as a young man, where he terrified people with his rage. He later earned fame as an archer during the 13th century Hogen Conflict. The inset above shows a monkey on a rooftop, waving to a crane as it flies over. A handsome design with fine wood grain impression in the dark night sky, delicate embossing on the white kimono and white kimono collar, and burnishing on the black lacquer railings.
