Edo, Snow at Yoshiwara, Urazato, No. 29 - Intriguing scene of the Yoshiwara courtesan Urazato held captive in the garden after secretly meeting with her lover, Tokijiro. Forbidden from seeing Tokijiro, her employee discovered her affair and beat her, leaving her tied up in the snowy courtyard. She looks anxiously over her shoulder as the couple's daughter, Midori, lifts the straw hat from her head. Later, Tokijiro rescued both Urazato and Midori. The inset above shows Tokijiro with a sword hanging from his teeth as he prepares to climb a tree into the garden and free the beauty. A handsome design with an attractive winter setting.
