Series; Selection of One Hundred Popular Flowers
Sato Yomoshichi, 1861 - Handsome kabuki portrait of an actor in the role of Sato Yomoshichi, the brother of the hapless Oiwa, wife of Tamiya Iemon in the classic ghost story "Yotsuya Kaidan." Here, he stares over his with a suspicious frown as he looks up from reading a letter. He wears a blue gray outer robe with a mandarin orange crest on the shoulders, his hair pulled back into a thick topknot tied with a white cord. The circular inset is framed by mandarin oranges and leaves, along with confetti-like shapes. An interesting design from a rarely seen Toyokuni III series.
