Sawamura Tossho II as the Wife Otama and Ichikawa Sadanji I as Genjiro

Comments - Handsome kabuki double portrait featuring Sawamura Tossho II as the wife Otama and Ichikawa Sadanji I as the commoner Genjiro outside the entrance to a building. At right, Genjiro scratches his head in a puzzled manner, frowning suspiciously as he eyes the beauty, who grins rather evilly. She wears a gray and blue striped kimono over a red under robe, tied with a yellow and brown plaid obi. Her hair is pulled back into a knot with a white ribbon, a comb slipping loose from the side of her head. Nice large expressive figures with a handsomely detailed setting.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 19 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Two separate panels. Horizontal folds. A few tears at edges and holes, repaired. Creasing, staining at edge. Please see photos for details.
