Comments - Terrific Kuniyoshi triptych of the great leader Minamoto no Yoritomo and his men hiding in a hollow tree following his defeat at the Battle of Ishibashiyama in 1180. Surrounded by enemy forces, his spy among the Taira, Kajiwara Kagetoki, diverts Yoritomo's pursuers away from the hiding place. A few raindrops slant across the dark night sky. A dramatic composition with large figures and a striking natural setting with clumps of yellow flowers and a small rivulet under the craggy tree. A great choice for a samurai enthusiast, beautifully detailed.
